Engineering is a thrilling experience, but you didn’t hear that from us. Here are some testimonials given by your fellow engineering students

Watch How Some of our Engineering Students Navigated Life at UNB and Overcame their Fears

"When I am feeling like things have gotten bad it's the easiest thing to let things happen and let the days pass and wait it out, but I don’t think that’s always the right thing to do. Instead, it's going to take effort and it's certainly not going to be comfortable but you have to start rebuilding your routine, going back to the things you were going to before and putting effort in."

Michael Walz

"When I came here I thought oh well I'm not going be able to make a lot of friends because there might be clashes with culture but then later on I met a lot of people and it wasn't like that at all. Everyone was really friendly and it was so easy to get along with people."

Soumya Satheesan

"I can be an engineer, I can be a woman in engineering and I can be queer too and there's no box that I need to fit into. I can just kind of present myself the way I want and whether it's this one day and this another day, no one really cares. People like me either way."

Melanie Flack

GGE is a great faculty and discipline.

“It's a great place to study and learn about both land and ocean mapping, geospatial data, surveying, GPS (GNSS). Our profs and admin do an amazing job, and the job market is even better during school, and after graduation. My personal favorite part about GGE is the ability to be outside working & surveying throughout my undergrad and as a career. In my senior design we created a model of Salmon habitat; it really felt like many of my passions all came together for something really special and only here.”

Conor Sexton - GGE

Mechanical engineering has been a great choice for me

since aerospace engineering is a specialization within it. Here at UNB, I have tried to cater all my course projects and extracurricular activities based on this interest. I really enjoyed the ME1312 course in my first year where my wonderful team built a toy rocket on a CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software. I also founded and led a project to send 3 go pros and a flight computer to the edge of space (103,000ft!) called StratoFredericton where I drew from several concepts I learned in my mechanical courses such as finding the center of mass for better stability of the payload. All in all, I have found that the mechanical engineering community encourages innovation, and the people here truly want to make you feel like this is where you belong.

As an electrical engineering student at UNB, you’ll learn a ton about technology

You’ll take a look at complex systems such as robots and computers, or even at a microscopic level, how electrons move through materials to create a charge. In this program we use the tools of math, physics, and computer science to learn, explore, and create. The community of students and faculty in UNB’s electrical and computer engineering department are a focused bunch, striving towards optimization and innovation.”

Joshua Kammermann - Electrical Engineering

“In chemical engineering you get to learn about fluid mechanics, material science, process design, and thermodynamics to name a few. There is a recurring focus in the program on how much goes in, and how much comes out. Whether that’s mass, energy, money, or a combination of the three it is a key concept of the degree.

Chemical engineering may be demanding, but the feeling of finally submitting that project is very satisfying.”

Will Robinson - Chemical Engineering

Electrical engineering is great

because you get to learn about hardware, software, and how the two connect. I enjoy my program as the projects are hands-on and we get to build physical prototypes. The program can certainly be challenging at times but is equally as rewarding.”
